ON THIS DAY IN IOWA WEATHER HISTORY...
1917: An early killing frost visited portions of about the eastern third of Iowa, with several stations recording an early freeze including lows of 32 F at Fairfield, Iowa Falls, and Waterloo, 31 F at Belle Plaine, Decorah, Keosauqua, and Maquoketa, and 30 F at Fayette. At Waterloo this remains the earliest freeze on record. Considerable damage was done to corn, potatoes, and other late crops.
