On this day in Iowa weather history...
1987: Unseasonably cold weather brought light snow to much of southern and western Iowa on October 10th, including reported amounts of 1.0 inches at Blockton and Sidney and 2.0 inches at Beaconsfield in Ringgold County, then on the morning of the 11th temperatures fell to record levels across much of the state. Des Moines and Waterloo both established daily records with lows of 21 F and 16 F, respectively. Other reported low temperatures around the state included 16 F at Charles City and Hawarden, 15 F at Manchester, Red Oak, and Northwood, and 14 F at Clarion and Ida Grove.
