SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE IN SOUTHWEST IOWA LATE NIGHT. SHOWERS/STORMS WILL INCREASE FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST...AND LINGER THROUGH THE DAY SATURDAY. A BRIEF BREAK IN PRECIPITATION BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON...BUT THE CHANCE FOR RAIN INCREASES ONCE AGAIN SATURDAY EVENING...LASTING THROUGH SUNDAY. THE ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH A SERIES OF LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM PUSHING ACROSS THE REGION.

On this day in Iowa weather history...
1996: An early season winter storm brought heavy rain across much of Iowa along with snow in the southwest. Over an inch of rain was recorded at most locations in the southeastern two thirds of the state with accumulations ranging up to 3.47 inches at Corning. Measurable snowfall was received southwest of a line from Onawa to Bedford with accumulations ranging up to 2.1 inches at Red Oak and 3.5 inches at Sidney.
