RAIN MIXED WITH SNOW REPORTS YESTERDAY AT DES MOINES, MARSHALLTOWN, GILLMAN, NEWTON, BELLE PLAIN, NEWHALL, ELY, AND CEDAR RAPIDS...

A COOL WEEK IS IN STORE FOR THE REGION AS HIGH TEMPERATURES REMAIN IN THE 40S AND 50S AND DROP TO THE 30S AND 40S LATE IN THE WEEK. A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND THROUGH NORTHERN MISSOURI ON WEDNESDAY BRINGING ADDITIONAL CHANCES OF RAIN AND SNOW TO THE AREA. THE HEAVIER RAIN ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED SOUTH OF I-80 WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWS NORTH OF I-80. THATS PUTS POW COUNTY IN THE BULLSEYE FOR WED AND EARLY THURSDAY......

Today thru Tue 14th-16th - Partly to Mostly Cloudy - Temps Mid/High 40's to near 30.

Wed and Thurs 17th/18th - Snow Wed thru Thursday Morning (Possible Heavier Snow along I-80 Corridor and North - Something to watch) - then Partly Coudy and Windy. Highs in Mid 30's with Lows near 25.

Fri and Sat 19th/20th - Dry thru late Sat - then Rain Changing To A Winter Mix Late. Mid 40's with Lows in Mid 20's.

Sun and Mon 21st/22nd - Snowshowers Sunday - then clearing Monday.

Tuesday and Wed 23rd/24th - Winter Mix changing to all Snow.

On this day in Iowa weather history...

1959: Unusually cold weather affected Iowa with many locations reporting record low temperatures for so early in the season, including Le Mars where the low of -24 F set the state record for this early and was only one degree shy of the all-time Iowa November record low which was set a full two weeks later in 1887. At Rock Rapids, Sheldon, and Sibley lows of -20 F set their all-time November cold records. Low temperatures reported further south and east included -13 F at Onawa, -12 F at Clarion, -10 F at Carroll, Pocahontas, and Sac City, -8 F at Jefferson and Woodward, -5 F at Ankeny, -4 F at Atlantic and Council Bluffs, -2 F at Shenandoah and Winterset, and -1 F at Corning, Des Moines, and Knoxville.
