Standard time will become official early next Sunday morning, Nov. 7, across the vast majority of the nation that adheres to Daylight Saving Time during the warmer months.

The official shift will take place at 2 a.m., local time, when time will "fall back" one hour to 1 a.m.

It may even be seen as an opportunity to get back that hour of sleep lost in "springing forward" last March.

States and territories not observing Daylight Saving Time, and therefore not needing to shift clocks, include most or all of Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa.

Nov. 7 also marks the end of Daylight Saving Time in Canada and Mexico.

On this day in Iowa weather history...

1992: An exceptionally cloudy and wet November began with statewide rains on the 1st-2nd. Most locations in the state reported over an inch of rain over those two days, and large areas of central and north central Iowa received 2-3 inches or more of rain. The highest reported accumulations included 3.24 inches at Grundy Center, 3.40 inches at Steamboat Rock, 3.63 inches at Parkersburg, 3.69 inches at Clarion, and 3.93 inches at Allison. The month would finish as the wettest November on record at several locations including Iowa City where 8.08 inches of precipitation was recorded for the month. At Des Moines it was the cloudiest month on record with only 56.7 sunshine hours recorded, and Cedar Rapids reported cloud cover 95 percent of the time during daylight hours.
