The next 6-10 days will feature the warmest period from Iowa eastward since mid November as a major warm surge occurs east of the Rocky Mtns. The same pattern that has pushed warmth up into the Mid-west has allowed major Pacific origin cold west of the Rockies. That kind of air moderates eastward though and what will be a major cold air mass for the west will be about as normal as you can get east when it gets here. And so what happens is for much of the nation from east of the Rockies, the front warmth outduels any cool that occurs behind it.

However,,, normal in January is not warm.. just not nearly as cold. So -  that does not mean there are not winter bullets left in the seasons cannon. Quite the contrary, because I believe the war is really about to start as the cold air regroups by Jan 5th through Western Canada and starts to march southeast. If this happens, my WINTER FORECAST forecast for Jan/Feb WILL verify......Iowa will be in the "weather battle ground".... In the end?  Big time winter mix of precip.  Time Tells......
