A VERY POWERFUL WINTER STORM IS MAKING ITS WAY ACROSS THE 4 CORNERS REGION OF THE DESERT SOUTHWEST. IT IS EXPECTED TO MOVE ACROSS NORTHERN TEXAS...AND THEN HEAD NORTH TOWARDS THE OHIO RIVER VALLEY OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AS IT DOES SO A BAND OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL SPREAD ACROSS SOUTHERN IOWA BEGINNING LATE TONITE/EARLY TUESDAY MORNING AND LASTING THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING (HEAVIEST SNOW SOUTH OF I-80 AND EAST OF I-35).  AS MUCH AS 15-18 INCHES WILL OCCUR IN EXTREME SOUTHEAST IOWA BY WED MORNING - WITH A FOOT OR MORE NORTH AND WEST TOWARD SIGOURNEY AND OTTUMWA......STRONG NORTHEASTERLY WINDS WILL ACCOMPANY THIS STORM CREATING NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS FROM NOON TUESDAY THRU LATE IN THE DAY WEDNESDAY.

The brunt of snow will fall Tuesday/Tuesday Nite with snow totals prior at 2-4 inches. Best Snowfall Estimates right now: Des Moines 7-9 inches - Grinnell 7-9 inches - Montezuma 8-10 Inches - Cedar Rapids 8-10 inches - Sigourney 10-12 inches - Ottumwa 12+ inches. Temperatures will be much colder into next week along with brisk north winds.


Today thru Wed 31st thru Feb 2nd - Flurries/Sleet this morning - Then Lt Snow this afternoon into Tues Morning -  Snow/Blowing/Drifting Snow by Noon Tues lasting thru early Wed (10 Inches) - Dry/Breezy by midday Wed - High Temps Low/Mid 20's dropping to 5-10 by Wed....The Heaviest Snow will fall from 1pm Tues afternoon thru 1am Wed Morning with Blowing/Drifting creating Blizzard Like conditions..........

By Mid-Nite Monday - 2.5 Inches/Blowing/Drifting.
By Noon Tues - 4 Inches/Blowing/Drifting.
By Overnite Tues - 10+ Inches/Blowing/Drifting.

Thurs thru Sun 3rd thru 6th - Dry and COLD Thursday!!!!! Mostly Cloudy/Breezy with Snowshowers Fri thru Sun.

Mon thru Wed 7th thru 9th - Dry/Cold.

Thurs/Fri 10th and 11th - Winter Mix/Lt Snow.

After the 11th?  Unsettled - Looking at another Plains and Mid-west Storm +/- around Valentines Day.
