On this day in Iowa weather history...

2004: A winter storm brought snow to all but extreme northeastern portions of Iowa on March 15-16. The heaviest snow accumulated from western into central sections of the state with reported amounts including 15.0 inches at Castana, 17.0 inches at Knoxville and Perry, 17.4 inches at Des Moines, 17.8 inches at Carroll, and 19.0 inches at Sioux City. At Des Moines 15.6 inches of their snowfall total was recorded just on the 15th, making it the third snowiest day on record at that location.
