Here's a quick look at what I think we'll see for May 2011..............
Temperatures:
Temps will be on the "Cooler" side. The monthly average Temp of 60F WILL NOT be the norm. Expect Temps to be 2-3 Degrees below Normal for the Month. A late freeze is far from out of the question - especially along and north of I-80 around the mid to late part of the month...........
Precipitation:
The state-wide average of around 4 Inches will be shattered - Expect 1.5 to 2 Inches above normal rainfall. Pow County/Central Iowa is likely to see bouts of Severe Weather Events, but the brunt of Extreme Severe will be the Northwest Half of the state - on a line and west from Lamoni to Newton to Waterloo. Well above normal precip will fall along and west of this line - to near normal or slightly above east of the line - with precip totals dropping to below normal in extreme SE Iowa.
For those of us that remember the Summer of 2008: The Summer of 2011 is looking alot like it. Quick Reference: May 2008 was when the Parkersburg F5 Tornado struck, and the 100 Year Flood hit Cedar Rapids in June..............
