Monday, 26 Sept 2011 Extended Pow County Forecast

No real changes to the forecast thinking from yesterday.  We got our showers yesterday afternoon, and even saw an Isolated Tshower.  National Weather Service Radar estimates for rainfall over the past 24 hours shows a narrow band 1/2" under a heavier showers that moved N-S along Hwy 21 just south of I-80 yesterday afternoon.  Elsewhere there was a trace to 2/10" County wide.

Today will bring a better shot at showers as the Low tracks well into the eastern half of the state. The low center will remain along the Miss River and drag additional moisture into Eastern Iowa. This will keep the heaviest rainfall amounts to our easts as well. Expect up to 3/4" of rain on a line and east from Ottumwa-Cedar Rapids-Dubuque - with less amounts west. The rain/no rain line should not reach any further west than I-35.

Low pressure will kick east by early Tuesday and high pressure will take its place. Tuesday thru Thursday will be more seasonal. We'll be dry with temps increasing to near 70 Tuesday - and Mid 70's Wed and Thursday. A dry cold front will move thru Thursday, cooling us back to below seasonal normals.

Today thru Friday 26th thru 30th: Breezy today -
Isolated Showers after Noon will become more numerous after 4pm and last into early Tuesday Morn - then Dry thru the remainder of the week (Windy Thursday).   Expect rainfall amounts around 1/4" in Pow Cty today/night (up to 3/4" east). High Temps will range from the Low 60's today - then warm to the Low/Mid 70's thru Thursday - Low/Mid 60's Friday.

Sat thru Fri 1-7 Oct:
Windy 5th/6th.
Tshowers on the 6th.
High Temps:  Low/Mid 70's - Low 60's after 6th.

Sat thru Fri 8th-14th:
Stormy - Showers/Tstorms (Hvy Rain 11th/12th).
Windy all week.
High Temps: Low/Mid 60's dropping to near 50.
May see our first Hard Freeze by weeks end.
