Thurs, 24 Nov 2011 Extended Pow Cty Forecast

Rain late Friday into Saturday - Rain will change to Lt Snow late Saturday in strong northerly wind......Right now, it's looking like an inch or two of Snow in Pow County.

What's going on in the Big Picture?  I haven't included any weather in the extended period after Dec 5th.  The Reason?  I'm confused as to whats going on and whats going to happen as a result....  For the past 2-3 weeks, a very strong pool of cold air has developed over NW Canada and Alaska.  Fairbanks Alaska has not had High Temps above 0F for the past 10 days.  My thinking 10-12 days ago was that cold air would have reached the Northern Plains by now.  It hasn't........But Look Out!  The cold air to our north can stand still for only so long.  My thinking right now is the cold air will hold its own for another 10 days.  This is a scenario that is setting up the potential for a Winter Storm after Dec 4th - Iowa will be on the Western edge of very cold outbreak that could take freezing temperatures as far south as the Gulf Coast.  During that time, Western Iowa High Temps very well could be 20 degrees warmer than Central Alabama.  This setup spells trouble for Iowa with a Mixed bag of winter weather - with Rain/Snow/Ice and Wind..........

Today (24th) thru Sunday (27th): Dry Today - Breezy with Rain after 6pm Friday lasting into Sat, with Rain changing to Snow/Wind late Sat into early Sunday - then Dry. High Temps Low 60's Today/Fri - 45 Sat dropping to High 30's Sun.

Monday (28th) thru Monday (Dec 5th):
Dry Monday - Lt Snow/Wind Tuesday into early Wed (High Temps from the Low 30's to Low 40's) - Mostly Cloudy/Snowshowers 3rd thru 5th....
