Tues, 31 Jan 2012 Extended Pow County Forecast

Quick afternoon update on the weather this weekend:  Things are still on track to see a storm move over Iowa late Friday into Saturday.  The system never does get a whole of cold air behind it.  This system looks more like a Spring type storm than mid winter - we may even see some pretty stiff Thunderstorms before the rain mixes with snow Friday Night - and then turn to all snow early Saturday........Snowfall amounts will totally depend on the timing of Rain turning to Snow - but I wouldn't be surprised to see 6+ inches thru Central and/or NE Iowa.  Winds will be a factor as well - with gusts to 35/40mph Saturday.............

We can enjoy these Temps in the 50's and 60's thru Thursday, but don't let it fool you....

A very strong Low Pressure System will develop in the Texas Panhandle by late Thursday, and track northeast into Northern Mo/Southern Iowa by later Friday......There will be a sharp contrast between heavy rain to south of the low, and heavy snow to the north from late Friday into the weekend.......If my thinking is correct, the low will track over the St Louis area on Saturday.  This will drag cooler air into the northern 1/2 of Iowa, with high temps in the high 30's early Saturday, and drop thru the day.  A rain/snow mix will change over to all snow thru the day......"Plowable" Snow?  Very Likely..........

Today (31st) thru Tues (Feb 7th): Dry thru Thursday - Rain/Breezy later Friday, changing to a Winter Mix overnite Friday - Lt Snow/Breezy Saturday - Snow ending thru the day Sunday, then Dry thru Tuesday.
